This is a good question from a curious mind.
If I am not mistaken, some Planet Fitness locations have commercial massage chairs. You have probably seen similar chairs at the mall, airports, and other public places.
Are they massage chairs? Yes.
Are they the kind of massage chairs I would recommend if you are actually looking for a good massage? Probably not.
Maybe I am spoiled because I spend my days around high end residential massage chairs, but honestly, I do not really waste my time with these commercial chairs. Some of them hurt, and some of them feel like they are barely doing anything at all.
Why Do Commercial Massage Chairs Feel So Different?
A big reason is the massage mechanism.
Many of the commercial massage chairs you see in gyms and public places are built around a basic 2D massage mechanism. The rollers move up and down along a relatively simple track and do not have the same ability to adjust the depth and movement of the massage like a more advanced 3D or 4D massage chair.
The simple track i mentioned above? They are flat. It is a straight line. Even the most basic massage chairs will come with an S track. These are flat and straight.
Your spine is not flat. It has curves and changes shape from your neck all the way down to your lower back.
That is one reason a good massage chair needs to do more than simply move rollers up and down.
Good and reliable quality massage chairs with 3D and 4D mechanism, the rollers can move in and out to better follow the shape of your body. A good 4D massage chair can also provide more variation in speed, rhythm, and massage technique.
That is a completely different experience from sitting in a basic commercial massage chair for a few minutes.
What About Gyms Around Orlando?
If you are in the Orlando, Florida area, you may come across commercial massage chairs at places such as Gold's Gym and some Crunch Fitness locations.
Some of the newer or recently renovated Crunch Fitness locations in the Altamonte Springs and Winter Garden areas have Human Touch commercial grade massage chairs.
One quick disclaimer. Not every Crunch Fitness location has them. It depends on the individual location and whether they have installed them.
So if you are going to the gym specifically because you want to try a massage chair, I would call the location first.
Should You Buy One for Your Home?
This is where I would say no.

You can get better massage technology, more adjustment options, better body scanning, more advanced roller movement, zero gravity positioning, foot and calf massage, and much more depending on the model.
And if you are spending several thousand dollars on a massage chair, I would rather see you get something that you actually enjoy using.
